Thousands of customers lined up out the doors at Pizza Nova locations across the province to demonstrate their support for a good cause. Pizza Nova handed a $99,005 cheque to Variety Village on May 21, exceeding the goal by $19,000.
Pizza Nova is a family-operated business founded in Toronto in 1963.
Expansion, based in Mexico, published its global MBA school ranking list May 12.
Schulich was one of only two Canadian business schools to make the ranking, with the Rotman School of Management, at the University of Toronto, placing 29th.
Schulich ranked ninth among business schools outside the United States and 15th among North American business schools.
Stanford claimed the top spot, followed by Harvard. Wharton and London Business School tied for third.
The ranking, established by Expansion in 2006, rates leading MBA programs worldwide using a broad range of criteria, including academic quality, return on investment and global value.
Schulich plans to establish satellite centres in Mexico City and Sao Paulo, Brazil, during the next year. The school has satellite centres in Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Mumbai and Moscow.
The funds will be used to help renovate and expand the school's third and fourth floors and add a fifth floor to the building. The upgrade project has an estimated bill of $20 million. Construction is expected to begin within the next three years.
The College Street facility has now been renamed the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design.
A portion of the donation will also fund a scholarship with preference on a student who is the first in their family to attend university.
Daniels, who is also a real estate investor, has spearheaded several notable Toronto landmarks notably the Eaton's Centre and the Toronto Dominion Centre.
This donation is the largest private contribution to a Canadian architecture school to date.
Brookfield Properties' Epic Book Drive has allowed midtown Toronto's Yonge Street Mission to donate more than 10,000 books to the community.
Hundreds of Yonge Street Mission patrons - including community members who have benefited from literacy programs such as ESL writing, multi-media classes and the after-school club - will be attending the fair May 29 and 30.
In addition to free books, award-winning author and storyteller Aubrey Davis will be reading to children May 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Davis is best known for his latest book Bagels for Benny, and has written for children four to eight. On Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Afroculture, an African arts troupe, will be performing storytelling and African drumming.
The event takes place in Regent Park.
For more than 110 years, the mission has worked to meet the needs of people living in poverty. Visit www.ysm.on.ca for details.
