Beaches Recreation Centre has something old and something new for this year's summer programming.

The recreation centre kicked off the long-running Kew Gardens Seniors Summer program this week. The opening ceremonies for the seniors program started Wednesday with a barbecue, line dancing, music, cards, coffee and bingo.

The program runs Monday to Friday until Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the south end of Kew Gardens, near Lee Avenue.

"We average about 30 to 35 seniors a day," said Roland Roushias, recreationist with the Beaches Recreation Centre.

Lawn bowling is a new option for kids enrolled in the summer camp at the centre this year.

"The Kew Gardens Lawn Bowling club has offered this as a chance for kids at the Beaches Recreation Centre camp to experience this," he said.
